FROM TWO HURRICANE DEVASTATIONS TO TWO GRAMMY NOMINATIONS FOR INDIE STUDIO DRUMMER
NYC musician Dylan Wissing weathers Hurricanes Irene and Sandy, rebuilds studio, and records drums for Alicia Keys, Drake, Kanye West and Jay-Z. Up for Grammy for his work on Drake’s album “Take Care.”
HOBOKEN, NJ, February 7, 2013 – Studio drummer Dylan Wissing was honored with a Platinum certification for his work on Drake’s Take Care, which also received a 2013 Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album. In 2012, Wissing received a Platinum certification for the Grammy-nominated Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne. He also recorded tracks for Fabolous (“So NY”), Rick Ross (“I Love My Bitches”), and Elizabeth Chan of Morgan Spurlocks’ Failure Club. Wissing recently played drums on the title track of Alicia Keys’s latest release, Girl on Fire, which reached #1 on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums.
When Hurricane Irene hit in 2011, Wissing had been tracking drums for clients such as Kanye West, Jay-Z, Rick Ross and the television show Glee at his Triple Colossal Studios in Hoboken. The storm flooded the low-lying studio, inundating Wissing’s massive collection of instruments and recording equipment with three feet of water. “I was dumping rare and expensive drums into vats of bleach to kill mold, which is definitely not recommended by most manufacturers,” says Wissing.
With state-of-the-art equipment and construction zeal, Wissing completely rebuilt Triple Colossal Studios on the second floor of an 1860s-era factory. It was a fortunate decision, because when Superstorm Sandy flooded Hoboken, the studio was unscathed—though Wissing’s commute to work was a soggy wade through a desolated landscape.
Having survived two major hurricanes, Dylan Wissing continues to provide world-class drum tracks to major label producers and independent artists through his online business, Indie Studio Drummer. “Dylan is my first-call session drummer,” says ten-time Grammy winning producer and long-time client, Ken Lewis. “I need him high and dry for upcoming projects.”
Wissing eagerly awaits the 55th Annual Grammy Awards on February 10. With his recent work on top-selling recordings, Wissing is aiming for a third straight year of Grammy nominations in 2014.
