Bio/Interview

Chris Infusino is a professional drummer based in New York City, NY.

Chris was born and raised in Chicago, IL, and started playing drums at age 12. He had many musical influences from the beginning, including his mother, a singer, and his father, a professional drummer of 30 years. During this time, he listened and played to a variety of genres, usually soul, R&B, and rock, and artists like Steely Dan, Blood Sweat & Tears, and the Blues Brothers.

It wasn’t until high school and studying with drum teacher Tom Tedrahn that Chris opened his eyes to jazz and fusion, spending countless hours practicing to albums from Modern Jazz Quartet, George Duke, and Chick Corea. Chris also attended Johnny Lee Lane’s Percussion Camp to study with Ndugu Chancler, Taku Hirano, Lewis Nash and Ruben Alvarez.

He received a scholarship to Roosevelt University in Chicago, and Chris played and recorded with the Roosevelt Jazz Orchestra, several jazz combos and studied with accomplished drummer and teacher, Phil Gratteau. He began playing in top-40 bands and jazz clubs in Chicago, and used the experiences to move beyond practicing to recorded music.

“I wanted to get out and play with other musicians. That really taught me how to listen and interact with the other guys in the band and truly play for the song.”

He played in town for several years playing before moving to Nashville, TN, in September 2008. There, Chris provided the groove live or in the studio for guitarist Rich Eckhardt (Toby Keith), bassist Sean O’Bryan Smith (Anna Wilson, Sara Evans), Scott Lindsey, Stephen Cochran, bassist Jerry Navarro (George Clinton & The P-Funk Allstars), Grammy-nominated pianist Jody Nardone and Earthworks Microphones.

After living in Nashville for a little less than a year, Chris came back to Chicago and starting laying the groundwork for a move to New York City to pursue different goals in a different music scene.

“Being from Chicago, I loved New York right off the bat because it did remind me of home, plus many of the styles of music and artists I grew up with listening to did come from out east, so it made sense to make things happen there.”

In June 2010, Chris moved out to New York City. He's played with The World Civic Orchestra & Choir at Carnegie Hall. Also, is drumming for artist Jim Wolf. With Jim, Chris has performed in NYC and through out the country, and has been featured on VH1's Save The Music Show "Break N Through". Chris also plays with several other singer/songwriters, does session work, and is actively touring and doing clinics as well. More details to follow.

Chris endorses Yamaha Drums, Paiste Cymbals, Aquarian Drumheads, Regal Tip Drumsticks, Earthworks High Definition Microphones, Cympad Products.
