About
Dusty Watson is known as the ‘King of Surf Drums’ having toured and recorded with many of the genre’s top players. Not just a surf drummer though, he has played in numerous bands in all styles of music. From the axe grinding hard rock of Lita Ford, to the alterna-dark Concrete Blonde, to the intensity of skate punks Agent Orange, to the gangsta metal funk of Boo Yaa Tribe to the double picking glissandos of Dick Dale. Dusty came on board early with Aquarian during his 10-year stint with Legs Diamond. “My drum tech from Lita Ford, Brian Wede, started working for Vinny Appice and he told me that Vinny was playing Aquarian drumheads. He said a drummer named Roy Burns had just started the company. I had met Roy Burns in 1975 when he played at my high school in Corona, CA. I learned the cross over trick from that performance! I remember talking with Roy after that show and he told me, ‘ahhh I stole that from someone else!’ so modest and humble. I fell in love with the man (even more) at that moment and have been playing his heads since the first day I tried them. Lucky me!”
