About
Marc started playing at the age of 7 and has now established himself as a well respected drummer
and musician for the last 15 years. He studied at the acclaimed Jazz department of the
Rotterdam Conservatory for 6 years and is recognized for his sense of groove and swing, and
his ability to easily adapt to any kind of musical situation.
Marc is currently successful with the jazz-funk formation ‘Great Eyeballs’. The group, founded in
2008, is already known for their energetic way of playing and features other dutch ‘key players’
Berthil Busstra on keys, guitarist Tim Langedijk and bass player Udo Pannekeet.
Their in 2011 released debut album received rave reviews by critics, audience and colleagues.
The excellence in partnership between Udo and Marc is an important part of this group’s
success.
Their follow up album ‘Elektric Disco Jazz’ has recently been released, january 2012
Marc’s other playing ventures include the Buzz Brothers Band with Marnix Busstra on guitar,
Berthil Busstra on keys and Erik Robaard on upright bass.
This group tours extensively in the eastern parts of the world where they are very successful
and perform on numerous international jazz festivals.
Besides being a member of these groups Marc also appeared with many notable jazz musicians
including Enrico Pieranunzi, Paul Bollenback, Jukka Perko, Bert van den Brink Trio, Hein van de
Geyn, Ilja Reijngoud Group, Benjamin Herman, Jeroen van Vliet, Ronald Douglas 4tet, Rob van
Bavel Trio, Nathalie Loriers Trio, Ad Colen 4tet, Paul Berner Band, Joris Teepe, Ben van den
Dungen...and pop/soul artists like Big Jay McNeely and Ruth Jacott
In 1999 Marc was nominated for the Erasmus Jazz Award.
In addition to playing, Marc is also an active educator. He has teached at numerous drum- and
music schools and the Rotterdam Conservatory.
