Dave McAfee

Dave “D-Mac” McAfee is a veteran Nashville drummer, bandleader and producer best known for his long tenure with Toby Keith. Over more than two decades, McAfee became a key part of Keith’s Easy Money Band, eventually serving as bandleader while touring extensively throughout the U.S. and overseas, including numerous USO tours. Beyond the road, McAfee has built an impressive recording career, with studio credits including Jamey Johnson’s That Lonesome Song, The Guitar Song, and Midnight Gasoline albums, and many of Wade Hayes’ records, including the Go Live Your Life and Old Country Song albums. In 2009, McAfee was voted Best Country Drummer in Modern Drummer’s Reader’s poll. His playing is particularly associated with a song-first approach rather than flashy technique for its own sake. McAfee is one of those Nashville musicians whose resume is much bigger than his public profile – a career sideman who spent decades behind a major country star while simultaneously contributing to some highly regarded country records. Also notably, Dave has maintained endorsement relationships with Aquarian Drumheads, Yamaha Drums, Paiste Cymbals and Vic Firth Sticks, all for over twenty years and counting. Dave is currently touring with Aaron Lewis (of Staind) and The Stateliners.

I have played Aquarian drumheads for over twenty years. I believe they are the best drumheads in the business. Aquarian’s quality control and attention to detail help their drumheads continue to be the most consistent heads by far. I believe their innovative shoulder manufacturing process is one of the main reasons you can fall in love with any Aquarian drumhead and expect the next one you get to be the same animal. That consistency is very important for a working drummer, especially on the road. When you have the kit locked in and your sounds have been fat, gushy and all around awesome for 10 shows or more, you can change out your heads confidently without freaking out your sound crew. Believe me, when your gear helps make you consistent, your employer and your crew won’t be afraid to count on you.
